Hello, and welcome to this Grubhub dashboard walkthrough. In this video, we’ll show you how to create a percent-off promotion from within the dashboard.
When creating promotions from within the dashboard you have the option to build an percent-off reward – a reward that offers a percentage discount on an item or an entire order. To create these, click the Promotions tab from the right-hand panel. From the drop-down menu click +New Promotion to be brought to the promotion builder page.
At the top you’ll notice that the promotion builder has three stages: Setup, Outreach and Review. The Setup stage lays the foundation for what kind of promotion you are building and its value. The Outreach stage determines who receives the promotion and what kind of correspondence will accompany it. Lastly, the Review stage allows you to go over all of the information included in the promotion before finalizing it. Let’s start with the Setup stage.
Under Promotion Details, fill out all of the required fields including the promotion name, any internal notes for personal records, and if you’d like to scope the promotion to in-store or order ahead only (by default it is set to apply to any order type.) Company or sponsor name will automatically fill with your business name.
Next, select which locations you’d like to participate in the promotion. By default, all locations are selected. If you’d like to limit it to fewer locations deselect the Select all locations button and use the drop-down menu to select one or more locations.
Under “Reward Details” click the percent off icon, which opens up the settings for this promotion type. Select the item tags for the items you’d like included in this promotion, or click the checkbox next to “Entire Order” to make the promotion apply to the whole purchase. Enter in the percentage you’d like the promotion to offer, then type in the max redemption value, which determines the maximum credit that can be redeemed. The max redemption value should cover the highest possible price for this item, but note that users will never receive an additional discount over the tagged item value. Finally, enter in the reward title and description. Please note, this text will be visible to customers so it’s important that the language is concise and clearly describes what the promotion is worth and when the customer can redeem it.
Under “Redemption details” choose whether you’d like to offer a one-time, recurring, or a reward duration redemption time window. A one-time time window opens a single block of time in which a customer can redeem the promotion, such as “redeemable this week only”. A recurring time window sets up specific times during the day when someone can redeem the promotion, such as “redeemable every day this month between 2pm and 5pm.” A reward duration time window sets a number of days in which a customer can redeem the promotion after they’ve claimed it to their account, such as “redeemable for 7 days”
Then, use the drop-down menu under “Reward visibility” to decide how you’d like customers to see the reward in the app and select either an immediate or scheduled run time for the promotion. Once you’ve finalized your choices, click Save and continue.
In the outreach section, first decide who will receive the promotion by clicking the drop-down menu under “Select promotion recipients” and select the segment you’d like to target for this promotion.
Then you decided if you’d like to send an email, a push notification, or both. It is recommended that you at least send an email when notifying customers of a new promotion. Under “Would you like to send a promotion email?” click Yes to bring up your email options. From the drop-down menu select which email type you’d like to use, either the pre-made template, HTML formatting, the rich email editor, or any email templates you’ve already created. Construct the email accordingly based on your decision.
If you’d like to send a push notification as well click Yes under “Would you like to send a push notification?” and enter in the push notification copy you’d like to send in the text field. Click Push notification guide for more information on how to construct a push notification. Please make note of the character limits, and the special process for including emojis.
Once you’ve settled on both your intended audience and correspondence, click Save and continue.
Finally, at the review page look over all of the information pertaining to the promotion to confirm that everything is correct. If needed, you can send test emails and push notifications. Once you are ready, you can either click Save draft and exit to revisit the promotion at another time, or click Run Promotion to make your promotion active.
